Bangladesh has started testing a new way to buy fuel: a QR-code-based "Fuel Pass" system that links your vehicle to a digital fuel quota. It launched as a pilot in April 2026 and could change how every filling station in the country works. This page is an independent guide — not the official system and not affiliated with the government. The real registration portal is fuelpass.gov.bd.

What Fuel Pass is

Fuel Pass is a digital system run by the government's Energy and Mineral Resources Division and implemented by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). Each registered vehicle gets a unique QR code. When you pull up to a participating filling station, you scan the code, and the station dispenses fuel against your allocated quota — recording everything digitally instead of on paper.

Why now? Even when fuel supply is adequate, Dhaka's pumps have seen long queues — sometimes stretching hundreds of metres — driven by panic buying and by people queueing repeatedly to collect more than their share. The QR system is meant to bring order: one vehicle, one verifiable quota, all tracked in real time.

Where it works right now

As of the launch, Fuel Pass is a pilot at two filling stations in Dhaka:

  • Trust Filling Station — Tejgaon / Bijoy Sarani area
  • Sonar Bangla Filling Station — Asad Gate

The pilot covers motorcycles first. If it goes well, the plan is to expand nationwide and to all vehicle types. So if you're outside Dhaka or drive a car, the system may not apply to you yet — but it's worth understanding now.

How to register for Fuel Pass

  1. Go to the official portal: fuelpass.gov.bd — this is the only official website. There's also an Android app; an iPhone version wasn't available at launch.
  2. Enter your vehicle details — registration number, chassis and engine numbers. These are checked against the BRTA central database, so the vehicle must be properly registered with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
  3. Provide your NID number (the one used during vehicle registration) and your active mobile number.
  4. Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile.
  5. Get your QR code — it's generated and linked to your vehicle. Download it to your phone or print it out. No smartphone? The printed code works fine at the pump.

Registration is free. Nobody — no agent, no middleman, no website — should be charging you a fee to sign up. Anyone asking for money to "activate" your Fuel Pass is running a scam.

How the QR code works at the pump

At a participating station, the operator scans your code before dispensing fuel. The system checks your remaining quota and logs the transaction. You can also view your own quota through the portal or app. Because everything is recorded centrally, the same vehicle can't keep rejoining the queue to stockpile fuel — which is exactly the misuse the system was built to stop.

What Fuel Pass doesn't do

  • It doesn't set fuel prices — it manages distribution and quotas.
  • It doesn't work at stations outside the pilot yet.
  • It doesn't replace your vehicle documents — keep your BRTA registration and everything else up to date, since the system verifies against BRTA records.

Frequently asked questions

Is this site the official Fuel Pass portal? No — fuelpassgovbd.online is an independent guide. The official portal is fuelpass.gov.bd. We can't register vehicles or issue QR codes.

Is registration really free? Yes — signing up on the official portal costs nothing. Report anyone charging a fee.

I don't have a smartphone. Can I still use it? Yes. Register on the website from any computer or at a service point, then print your QR code and carry it with you.

What if I sell my vehicle? The new owner will need to register the vehicle under their own details — the QR code is tied to the registered owner, not just the bike.

When will it reach my city? The government says nationwide expansion for all vehicle types follows a successful pilot. There's no published date yet — be skeptical of anyone claiming otherwise.
